Is lifelong learning a realistic personal goal?

The Campaign for Learning joins with us to ask: is lifelong learning a realistic personal goal?
6.00pm, 3 December, 2007
at the London School of Economics

Chair, Tricia Hartley, Joint Chief Executive of The Campaign for Learning will introduce the debate. The panel will include: Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts (RSA) and Titus Alexander, Director for Learning the Scarman Trust.

The UK’s strategy on skills and qualifications has largely focused on younger people, and encouraging business to take the lead. Yet redundancy, early retirement, and longer working lives conspire to force individuals to look for retraining and acquiring new skills. Are the opportunities there for them realistically to pursue lifelong learning? And what are the implications in terms of the UK’s future economic competitiveness?
