Rush to establish academies brings new challenges to school governors.

Whilst academies were the creation of the Blair government there is no doubt, that under the leadership of Michael Gove at the Department for Education (DfE), there has been a determined increase in their numbers. The process of becoming an academy presents new challenges to those charged with the responsibility for governance - not least because there is confusion over who ultimately has the right to drive or challenge the process.  Is it the local authority, or the school head teacher, or the governors or the DfE?

PrimeTimers has been researching which organisations are sponsoring academies, what are their roots, and who is behind them. If you want to know more please contact us at enquire@primetimers.org
